Ultrasonex is the name of a German company that exists for one purpose, and one purpose only: to make the best toothbrush there is. And they succeeded: presenting the Ultrasonex Toothbrush!
The electronic toothbrush is not exactly a new idea. Its rotating brushes enable deeper levels of cleaning than we can obtain with a manual toothbrush. It also incorporates a small motor that rotates the brush heads faster than we can move the toothbrush back and forth across our teeth. It is definitely a step up from a manual one, but a regular electric toothbrush is still not the last word in teeth cleaning experience.
This time ultrasound technology has been used as a solution. Science fiction shows speculate that sonic showers may replace the water variety at sometime in the future. This cleaning method idea works well. An Ultrasonex toothbrush gives us a fresh-from-the-dentist feel even when we don’t have a regular cleaning scheduled.
There are three levels of operation in the Ultrasonex. The first level which provides the deepest cleaning has the brushes rotating against the teeth. It emits an inaudible sound that smoothly releases some plaque and tartar from the teeth. The highest setting works nicely for this purpose but it’s not recommended for those who have sensitive teeth. A switch on the unit lets us change the setting and LED indicators on the Ultrasonex let us know which setting we are using during his regular brushing sessions.
The designers of the Ultrasonex also included a lower level setting for people with slightly sensitive teeth and a setting that just uses the rotating heads for people with the most severe cases of sensitive cases. Like many other electric toothbrushes, the brush unit can be put into a base when not in use. The base restores the electric charge to the rechargeable battery.
The ergonomic design lets its owner hold it comfortably in his hand while brushing his teeth. The two rotating heads can be replaced without the need to replace the entire unit. It also includes a feature that stops the heads every 30 seconds to remind the user to change the position of the brush.
I bought it when I noticed my gums bleeding often enough to become worried about it. The pains from it didn’t help too.
After a week I could tell the difference already. My gums looked and felt healthier. The stains (from years of smoking…) had started to fade away. And I also thought my teeth looked somewhat whiter, although to be honest I’m still not sure whether this is actually true or just my gut feeling. All in all, certainly the best toothbrush I have ever used.
Is the Ultrasonex expensive? Yes. Do you get value for your money? Absolutely. The price is expensive because it was built with the famed German engineering quality. Not to mention once you buy it, you definitely won’t buy anything more but replacement brushes every once in a while. This is why there’s only one model of Ultrasonex since unlike some other products (cough *Sonicare* cough) the company doesn’t believe in compromising quality. For example, I’m sure the Ultrasonex can be made cheaper if it uses disposable batteries instead of built-in rechargeables but the durability and convenience of the unit would suffer. So all in all, the Ultrasonex toothbrush is as good as Sonicare top models which, unlike their cheap models, also uses built-in rechargeables and therefore just as expensive if not more.
